  • Have you participated before?

Yes, this will be the 5th time i participate in Shetland Race. And still get excited before every race.

  • When / which boat?

Started in 22 with my own boat at the time Off course, a Jeanneau SO 49 Performance. last four times is with Kraken a Hanse 548, owner is Lennart kirkevik. And we have a pretty stable crew with focus on safe sailing and having fun.

  • What is your best memory from Shetland Race?

Its not really one special moment. But the whole experience of getting the boat ready, training with the crew, preparations, the gathering in Bergen Bryggen the evening before the race. The checking of weather to see how difficult its going to be. Still hoping for that 120 Degree, 15 knots steady breeze. The arrival to Shetland meeting the race committee at the docks. Dinner at No88 is always a winner. Some travel around Shetland by car. And of course the sail back and see Marstein in the horizon.

  • Why are you participating in Fully Crewed class?

For us its mostly about the social aspect. This is a vacation with good friends. So it has never been a discussion not to do fully crewed.

  • What are your expectations to sail during night-time, midsummer?

My experience is that the North sea is never the same. You would think it miles and miles of the same water. But there is actually lots to see. We have seen whales and lots of different sea birds. The North sea is a busy place, with ships, platforms, fishing vessels and other sailors. Not to mention the incredible sunsets and sunrise (if weather permits). The sea changes colour a long the way which is also fascinating.

  • How did you get to know about Bergen Shetland Race?

I heard about it first from Fridtjov Bergman and participated the covid versions at first.

  • Planning any activities during the stay?

We usually rent a car for a day and we try to find new spots to visit each time. Last year we did Sauna on the beach on the westside of Shetland https://www.haarsauna.com/ We have not planned anything yet. But we will

  • Optional: Do you want to challenge anyone to participate in this year’s race?

I would like to challenge Torgeir Titland to participate in this years race :-)
